FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How does it work?
A: When you call OPI, a live operator will ask for your language, and for any special instructions. The Operator will then connect you to an interpreter via a 3-way conference. On the client end, you can utilize a speakerphone, or an inexpensive two-handset phone solution available through OPI. Clients working “in the field” also utilize cell phones when no regular phone is available.

Q: How do you know a good interpreting service from the rest?
A: You have to be careful, there are new companies sprouting up all over the country claiming to have the quality interpreters and infrastructure necessary to service your language needs. In weeding out the “Mom and Pop Interpreting Shops” from established and professional OPI providers with a national presence, your prospective provider should be able to show at least the following:

  • Over 100 languages available, with 24/7 availability: All languages, all the time.
  • Languages should be accessible in less than a minute.
  • There should be only one set price for any and all languages.
  • They must utilize advanced Computer Telephony Integration in their Operations.
  • They must be prepared for Natural and Manmade disasters through the utilization of multiple line providers, redundant servers and multiple access points for T-1 phone lines.
  • They must have an established quality assurance program that includes extensive oral language testing, monitoring, and review.

Q: Isn’t it always better to have someone in person?
A: There are many instances where it is impractical or unwise to attempt to use an interpreter in person. In the case of an emergency, a patient and their physician cannot wait the time (possibly hours) that it would take for an interpreter to arrive at their physical location. They need help now. If the language needed is what can be considered a language of limited diffusion, there is a possibility that no qualified interpreter will be available to come to the location and interpret. In a sensitive case where confidentiality is paramount, it can be next to impossible to find an impartial interpreter in a small ethnic community. In those and many other instances, an over the phone interpreter is the hands down best option.

Q: How long does it take to get an interpreter on the line?
A: Literally, it happens in seconds. Our Advanced Computer Telephony Integration does most of the work behind the scenes, while you speak with a friendly live operator who makes sure that all of your needs are being met to your specification. Seconds after the call is initiated, the interpreter is on line with you and ready to interpret.

Q: What if we already have a service in place?
A: You are probably paying too much. Call now and compare.

Q: How do we get started?
A: Just pick up the phone and call for service, or fill out the get information form and let us know how we can best fulfill your language needs.
